'Spacious' is a collection of abstract paintings in which David Rycroft seeks to create a vaste sense of space with minimal means. Here, the white ground of the card shines through the thinly applied oil paint. The play of the differing densities in the layers of paint creates sculptural vistas in which tiny paint marks appear as focal points. These marks are reminiscent of the figures in the Romantic paintings of Caspar David Friedrich.
